Description :

This class will cover subjects of interest for anyone who administers roadway construction projects. The first day of class instruction will cover: Construction Administration the owner’s role, contract award and execution, bonds and insurance, responsibilities of the on-site representative, planning and managing construction activities and prosecution and progress of the work. The second half day will cover materials testing and acceptance, pavement milling and alternative resurfacing options such as micro-resurfacing, nove chip slurry seal and others.

This course is designed and aimed at the more experienced field representative or project owner’s representative. It is recommended that attendees should have at least 5 years work experience in this environment or have attended the “Introduction to Construction Inspection in Public Works” offered by ITRE and APWA.

Day One

  • Construction Administration Including Owner’s Role and Project Team
  • Construction Contract including awarding and Execution of Contract, types of Contracts and Special Provisions
  • On site representative and the Contract including contents of contract, drawings, standard and special provisions, submittals and close-out documents
  • Planning and Managing Construction Activities including preconstruction conference, site meetings, utility meeting, progress schedules, overruns, underruns and eliminated contract items. Also extra work, suspension of work, payments and record keeping
  • Prosecution and Progress including control of work, managing costs, managing payments, processing claims, avoiding disputes and planning ahead

Day Two

  • Asphalt Paving Alternatives including Micro Resurfacing, Chip Seal, Nova Chip, Slurry Seal, Joint Sealing
  • Materials Testing and Acceptance Testing including testing of Asphalt, Concrete and Soils
