Solid Waste Division Annual Conference
“The New Normal in Solid Waste Services”
August 7th -9th, 2019
The Beaufort Hotel
2440 Lennoxville Rd, Beaufort, NC 28516
The Solid Waste Board of Directors and I would like to welcome everyone to attend the 2019 Annual Solid Waste Conference at the Beaufort Hotel in Beaufort, North Carolina. This year’s conference is titled Emergency Planning “The New Normal for Solid Waste Services” with the goal of helping us prepare for the challenges and opportunities in our ever-evolving industry. Almost daily find that there’s a new normal for how we manage emergencies like natural disaster and debris management or manmade crisis like the changes that have challenged us in the recycling industry. Our speakers will share their insights and lessons learned for how to navigate these changing times and rough waters to help us better understand “the new normal”.
I would like to thank each board member that has worked very hard on the Fall, Winter, and Spring Workshops. Over 300 solid waste professionals participated in our workshops. Our board members are the engine driving our Solid Waste Division forward to many of our successes and we can’t do it without them.
The Annual Conference will present topics in areas such as Emergency Management and Planning, Recycling Education and Alternatives. Additionally, we’ll host a roundtable discussion about recycling trends and impacts from recent national and international decisions. Speakers from NC DEACS will also discuss recycling programs and current events for our industry professionals. And who can forget… help us celebrate the 15th Annual Trashy Games.
I can’t forget the Partners we rely on each year to help fund these educational opportunities. Without their help and continued support we wouldn’t be able to host those 300 solid waste professionals at the workshops. We look forward to our partners’ participation, their displays, product information and their continued support of the APWA-NC Solid Waste Division. Our partners’ support is crucial to the success of our conference. You are encouraged to visit each partner and get to know them, their products and the services that they provide. These relationships are important for our success.
Come on down and enjoy what Beaufort has to offer! We look forward to seeing everyone there!
2019 APWA-NC Solid Waste Division President
