The Leadership and Management Division of APWA-NC invites you to attend our 2020 workshop being held virtually on August 12 - 13. This year is very different than many of us expected and we know that many companies and municipalities have had to reduce or eliminate training budgets. LMD has set up this virtual conference to provide an economical option for training and an opportunity for our Partners to continue to let others know that they are still working. A smaller, yet great lineup of interesting and informative learning opportunities is planned. Topics range from engineering practice to a legislative update – issues we all face in the public works field.
I hope you are able to join us for a great workshop and that this provides meaningful and economical solution to a challenging year. While this year's conference/workshop is different, our commitment to those that faithfully support APWA-NC and LMD remains the same. Stay safe and I look forward to seeing you.
Dan Leaver 2020 LMD President
Presentation will describe a case study of Smart Cities & Transit-Oriented Development applied to the City of North Miami, Florida. Included with the discussion will be effects of climate change on redevelopment planning, telecommunication technologies and how they affect city development, importance of public outreach during the planning process and how catalyst projects done in the short term validate the master planning process.
3D Project Delivery:
3D Design Deliverables and Subsurface conflict resolution has been a topic of discussion in our industry for many years. Many groups are beginning to take strides into new product platforms and alternate delivery methods. In this presentation I will discuss specific projects where BIM applications have been used to solve problems from within the transportation industry and show how old and new tools can be applied as the industry shifts to new product applications
WWTP Design Build:
This presentation provides insights, approaches, and lessons learned for project development using a Public Private Partnership (PPP) to plan, design, permit, and construct a new regional industrial wastewater pretreatment facility. The perspective will be from a unit of local government, the Town of Clayton, NC. The presentation will highlight specific points in the project where bold leadership and management was needed to address risk and uncertainty.
NC Legislative Update:
This presentation will cover relevant state and federal legislative actions in 2020. It will include information about how public works managers can affect state and federal policy as well as understand how policy changes affect local public works budgets and processes.
