The Chapter’s Awards Program was established to recognize outstanding individuals, groups, programs and projects representing the very best in the public works profession. What a great way to recognize and motivate your star employees! The North Carolina Chapter has numerous awards, nominations opportunities are always being announced.

2023 National Awards Information

Please click the 2023 National awards link to see what types of awards are open to our members. Keep in mind that almost all the National award applications are due into National on March 1, 2023. An exception to this date is the Excellence in Snow and Ice Control Award, which will be due in December for 2024. The North Carolina Chapter itself has received the APWA PACE Award numerous times. 

National Awards:

APWA AWARDS RECOGNIZING THE PROFESSION

Membership in APWA is not required. The intent of these awards is to focus beyond membership into the profession of public works:

Asset Management Award; Commendation for Exemplary Service to Public Works; Excellence in Snow and Ice Control Award; Exceptional Performance Awards (Adversity, Diversity, Journalism, Journalism Chapter, Safety, Sustainability); Management Innovation Award; Public Works Project of the Year Award; Public Works Project of the Year Award – Small Cities/Rural Communities; Technical Innovation Award 

APWA AWARDS RECOGNIZING THE MEMBERS

Requires that nominees be APWA members in good standing.

Community Involvement Award; Distinguished Service to Public Works Award; Donald C. Stone Award for Excellence in Education; Harry S. Swearingen Award for Outstanding Chapter Achievement and Excellence in Chapter Service; International Service Award; Myron Calkins Young Leader of the Year Award; Presidential Award for Chapter Excellence (PACE); Professional Manager of the Year Awards (Administrative Management, Engineering and Technology, Facilities and Grounds, Public Fleet, Public Rights-of-Way, Public Works Emergency Management, Solid Waste, Transportation, Water Resources); Top Ten Public Works Leaders of the Year Award
