The Facilities and Grounds Division (previously called Buildings and Grounds) seeks to provide members with the resources for exchanging and developing ideas, information, skills, knowledge, and technologies for the operation, management, and maintenance of public buildings, grounds, and parks. Our focus is on individuals that have a role within their organization involved with facilities and/or grounds regardless of where the position fits into their organizational chart.
Over the last several years, we have provided the following events for our chapter members as well as individuals that may not yet be members of APWA but are simply interested in obtaining knowledge on a particular subject :
Annual Spring Conference - This is a great opportunity for individuals to obtain educational knowledge as well as networking opportunities with people in similar positions across the State. This conference typically kicks off with a golf tournament on the afternoon of the first day followed by an evening reception that allows attendees to get acquainted. The second day is filled with educational sessions along with opportunities to meet conference partners and review their products and/or services. The third and final day offers additional educational sessions that conclude by lunch. The location of the conference moves each year to different areas across the state in an attempt to reach the entire membership.
Our Division coordinates a 2-hour certification class for individuals that have a NC Pesticides License in the spring that is held in conjunction with the ODB Equipment Show. The show and the class are held annually at the JB Hunt Complex on the NC State Fairgrounds in Raleigh.
Our Board conducts a one-day fall workshop on a current topic that most organizations have to be concerned with regardless of their size. Our goal is to identify a topic and a speaker or speakers that can share their knowledge and firsthand experience with the attendees. Recent workshops were on Arc Flash and NFPA 70E Requirements and Playground Safety.
Our hope is that all attendees, not just APWA members, see the value of APWA and the benefit one receives from being actively involved with the state chapter and our division.
