The purpose of the Solid Waste Division is to provide training and promote best management practices in the management of solid waste in NC. This is accomplished through providing an avenue for networking at quarterly workshops and the Annual Solid Waste Conference. The SWD holds a winter workshop focusing on topics for solid waste collectors, a spring workshop focusing on topics for solid waste supervisors, and a fall workshop focusing on topics for solid waste equipment operators. The SWD strives to hold workshops that are informative, relevant, and enjoyable, as well as provide an atmosphere for productive networking. The workshops are one-day events. The SWD also holds its annual conference, a two and a half day event, typically held in August of each year. The annual conference is packed full of trending topics in the field of solid waste and updates from NCDENR on any relevant upcoming legislation or changes in regulations, as well as including ample opportunity to network with other solid waste professionals at social events and leisure activities. The overall goal of the SWD is to provide value to the APWA membership in the field of solid waste and recycling.
