Congratulations to the City of Fayetteville! The North Carolina Veterans Park project was chosen by APWA as the Project of the Year in the Structures category ($5-$25 Million). The Chapter's Executive Board and Awards Committee endorsed this national nomination for many reasons.
The project utilized an extensive community involvement process which included each of the State’s 100 counties.
The project represents a key element in the revitalization of downtown Fayetteville by creating a campus environment tying important downtown features together.
The project is environmentally friendly and preserves existing environmental features while creating additional sustainable elements such as rain gardens and bio-cells.
The project focus is on Human Centered design, expanding opportunities and enhancing experience for people of all ages and abilities to fully experience the park through excellence in design.
The project succeeds in its primary purpose: to honor those who "From the Soils of North Carolina" left their homes and families to serve our country.
The project created and maintained high level of public trust and satisfaction.
We were thankful for the award selection and proud of Fayetteville for boldly pursuing this project to honor North Carolina's many veterans. The City of Fayetteville received this award during the 2013 APWA Congress in Chicago on August 26th.
